Alerts Overview

Kadeck's alerts system provides notification capabilities that work in tandem with the platform's monitoring infrastructure to keep your teams informed about critical events across your streaming architecture. The system enables timely responses to infrastructure incidents and data flow anomalies, ensuring operational continuity and data quality.

Purpose​

The alerts system serves two primary functions:

Infrastructure Incident Monitoring​

Alerts integrate with Kadeck's monitoring section to notify administrators and operations teams about infrastructure-related incidents. When Kadeck detects issues across Kafka clusters and associated components—such as broker failures, Kafka Connect or Schema Registry problems, or resource or replication issues, Kadeck can immediately notify designated teams through configured notification integrations.

Topic Notifications​

Beyond infrastructure monitoring, alerts enable monitoring of data flow patterns of topics. This includes notifications about:

  • Dead Letter Queue (DLQ) activity - Alert when messages are routed to DLQ topics, indicating data processing issues
  • Data arrival patterns - Monitor incoming data streams for anomalies or expected data delivery
  • Topic-level metrics - Track consumption lag, throughput changes, or other topic-specific conditions

Architecture​

The alerts system follows a flexible, integration-based architecture:

  1. Integration Configuration: Administrators configure one or more notification integrations (e.g., email, Slack, Microsoft Teams, PagerDuty) through the Kadeck Administration interface. Each integration defines how alerts are delivered to your organization's communication and incident management systems.

  2. Alert Configuration: Each alert configuration supports one or more notification integrations. This multi-integration support enables:

    • Targeted routing of alerts to specific teams or systems based on ownership and responsibility
    • Multi-integration delivery for critical alerts to ensure redundancy and timely response
    • Customizable notification strategies aligned with alert severity, type, and organizational policies

This architecture provides the flexibility required to integrate Kadeck's alerting capabilities into existing operational workflows and incident management systems.
